I see the Los Angela police are after O J Simpson again. The collector Alfred Beardsley, who told police on Thursday that Simpson and several other men stormed a Las Vegas hotel room and stole memorabilia at gunpoint. Now he told The Associated Press he is not interested in pursuing the case. But the police still wants to press charges even if the evidence is not there. Does this sound familar to anyone? Schools are a microcosm of the society in which we live. Frequently, what takes place in schools are a reflection of what takes place in the wider society. In educational settings, school profiling has recently become a salient issue in understanding the dynamics of education and what takes place within and among schools. You can read more here.

We recommend that in jurisdictions with large numbers of black students, school boards, academic authorities, faculties of education and representatives of the black community collaborate to establish demonstration schools and innovative programs based on best practices in bringing about academic success for black students.
This was one of the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Learning that reported to the Ontario Government in 1994, on how to improve the Educational System in Ontario. An extract from the report can be read here.

A Toronto District School Board vice-principal has joined the call for experimental Black-focused schools as an alternative educational mechanism for youth disengaged and disaffected in the current school system.
The keynote speaker at the Black History Month celebration last weekend of the Organization of Parents of Black Children (OPBC), Gary Pieters also expressed the view that Afrocentric schools would serve students of all backgrounds in much the same way as magnet and charter schools.
